Friday, RICHARD'S KID tries to break his losing streak in the 1 1/2 mile COUGAR II at Del Mar.

On Saturday morning, CIRRUS DES AIGLES and RED CADEAUX face off in the 1 1/2 mile $1.5 MILLION KING GEORGE VI AND QUEEN ELIZABETH Stakes at Ascot.

KAUAI KATIE runs in the G1 PRIORESS at Saratoga.  STEPHANIE'S KITTEN, DAYATTHESPA and CENTRE COURT in a field of 6 in the G1 $600,000 DIANA.

Belmont hero, PALACE MALICE (Mike Smith) faces other 3 yo from the Triple Crown trail in the JIM DANDY, G2, $600,000.


PAYNTER will face CLUBHOUSE RIDE, KETTLE KORN, LIAISON in the GRADE 2 SAN DIEGO HANDICAP at Del Mar.

Then Sunday, it's Monmouth's turn to step into the spotlight with several top races including the HASKELL with Lukas' Preakness winner, OXBOW (Gary Stevens), POWER BROKER, VERRAZANO, MICROMANAGE, in a field of 6 or 7 3 year olds.

PANTS ON FIRE runs in the MONMOUTH CUP and faces TAKE CHARGE INDY, HYMN BOOK in a field of 7.  At Saratoga it's MENTOR CANE in the G2 AMSTERDAM.  At Del Mar it's COMMA TO THE TOP, GOLDENCENTS, and MAJESTIC CITY in the G1 BING CROSBY.

SUMMER RACING BEGINS IN EARNEST WITH THE OPENING OF SARATOGA AND DEL MAR:

Among the big races at SARATOGA, which opened on Friday, include Coaching Club American Oaks, Lake George, Jim Dandy, Travers, Whitney, Sword Dancer, Alabama, Personal Ensign, Jim Dandy, Diana, and many more. All told, Saratoga will have 18 Grade 1 races in addition to some strong lower level contests.  Saratoga Stakes Schedule

Speaking of Saratoga opening on Friday, DEL MAR opened on Wednesday and runs through September 4. Their racing schedule includes 7 Grade 1 races, including Clement L. Hirsch, Eddie Read, Bing Crosby, Del Mar Oaks, Del Mar Debutante, Del Mar Futurity, and the $1,000,000 Pacific Classic!  Del Mar Stakes Schedule

FLASH:  DRF: LIVE STREAMING FOR HOLLYWOOD PARK SUNDAY

IT'S ON THE TURF THIS WEEKEND! Two Grade 1 plus other important turf races in U.S., plus two Group 1 races overseas top this week's racing fare!

A big wave of important turf races crests over the racing world this weekend, from Europe through the East Coast to Chicago and on west.

Saturday's Delaware Oaks could be an early stepping stone to the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic. And there's a small clutch of races for the 2-year-old set on both dirt and turf.

But by any measure, the green course is the place to be, with 10 graded stakes races from 1 mile out to 1 1/2 miles in the United States alone.

"Million Preview Day" Saturday at Arlington Park points directly to that track's three Grade I races Aug. 17. The grassy events at Belmont and Hollywood Park foreshadow later showdowns at Saratoga and Del Mar. And don't overlook Colonial Downs and Delaware Park.

A big litter of "Kittens" is running around, too. Yes, those "Kittens."

A look ahead at weekend racing plus Fourth of July results

Canada's signature race of the year, some defending Breeders' Cup champions and speed, speed, speed all are on tap in weekend racing.

It's the Queen's Plate at Woodbine near Toronto, where the northern nation's top 3-year-olds slug it out for Canada's biggest Thoroughbred prize.

Out west, Game On Dude also has a lot of weight on for Saturday's Hollywood Gold Cup. If he can tote the poundage, Game On Dude will solidify his standing among the favorites for the Breeders' Cup Classic this fall. At Belmont Park, Saturday's Suburban for older horses and the Dwyer for 3-year-olds also will be noted by those watching the Classic contenders.

Longer-distance turf runners have a big weekend on tap, too, with the $500,000 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth offering a ticket to the Breeders' Cup Turf and a pair of Sunday races at Woodbine pointing to that track's multimillion-dollar turf features later in the summer.
Overseas action includes the Group 1 Coral Eclipse at Sandown in England and the Group 1 Deutches Derby in Hamburg.
