A LOOK BACK: REMEMBERING CIGAR - July 13, 1996
The day Cigar Equaled Citation's 16-race winning streak
THE INCOMPARABLE THE INVINCIBLE, THE UNBEATABLE CIGAR!! Prior to his historic "streak" of 15 straight wins, and before Cigar was to undertake to equal Citation's 16 race winning streak in Chicago, prior to that Cigar had had an undistinguished career mostly on the turf. In fact it was declared that he did not know how to win. Switched to dirt, he seemed to not know how to lose. The Streak began in October 1994 at Aqueduct in an Allowance race, culminating at the Invitational Ar...lington Citation Challenge, July 13, 1996. Embedded in the TDN article is a replay of the broadcast by CBS. You can skip to 11:30 on the tape to pick up the start of the race.
